Yasuke Simulator launched on the same day as Assassin’s Creed Shadows and takes a playful jab at Ubisoft’s latest action-adventure. On Reddit, it’s being embraced as an over-the-top meme alternative. On SteamDB, the game is already ranked number 2 under “Hot Releases”.

Yasuke Simulator launched on Steam on March 20. Created by indie studio HistoryAccurateDevelopers, the tongue-in-cheek action game is a clear satire of Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows – complete with questionable historical choices, over-the-top skins and loads of meme potential.

In both story and gameplay, Yasuke Simulator mirrors the premise of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, placing players in the role of Yasuke, the first African samurai in 1579 Japan. As an ally of Oda Nobunaga, you fight to help unify the country, with fast-paced katana combat at the core. Unlike Ubisoft’s title, though, Yasuke Simulator doesn’t take itself too seriously – pink samurai shades, beer helmets and Bengal tiger outfits playfully mock the historical setting.

On Reddit, Yasuke Simulator is being celebrated as a deliberately over-the-top “meme competitor,” with comments like “I’ll buy this, no question” and “We have to get this to number 1 – just to troll” reflecting the community’s enthusiasm. On SteamDB, the game has already climbed to second place in the “Hot Releases” section. More skeptical voices, however, compare it to a beginner’s Unreal Engine project filled with free assets, suggesting it might be more of a troll or marketing stunt than a serious release. Still, if you’re curious, the satirical Assassin’s Creed Shadows clone is available on Steam for about $4. With a 15% launch discount running until April 3, you can grab it for around $3.50.
