PlayStation executive Phil Rosenborg is leaving the company after 20 years.

The suit, who will retain his post until the end of 2025, currently serves as the SVP of Global Partner Development and Relations, meaning he’s a big deal when it comes to signing new titles and making sure PS5 attracts all of the biggest games.

And in an interview with the SIE Blog reflecting on his tenure, he pointed out that Sony’s Content Ventures team – led by Christian Svensson and Shawne Benson – is the best in the world at both finding hidden gems and nurturing up-and-coming studios.

He explained: “[The team worked with] Annapurna Games very early on with games like Stray. The same approach also led to our support of Genshin Impact, Black Myth: Wukong, and Stellar Blade for example.”

The fact that Rosenborg is name dropping some of the biggest titles on the planet here speaks volume.

Genshin Impact, and HoYoverse’s various other releases, have gone on to become cultural cornerstones. Black Myth: Wukong was one of 2024’s best-selling games. And Stellar Blade is a genuine fan favourite.

“We are spending a lot of time right now in expanding our global markets,” Rosenborg said, pointing to recent initiatives like China Hero Project, India Hero Project, and the recently announced MENA Hero Project.
