The cozy MMORPG genre is only growing, and it seems like soon, it’ll may have a new horse in the races. (Literally, maybe.) Industry veteran Craig Morrison announced via Bluesky that his studio Blue Scarab, where he’s the Studio Director, is soliciting playtesters for its “cozy horse riding game with a dash of dark mysteries.”
If chosen, players will need to sign an NDA before giving the work-in-progress multiplayer game a try. Sign-ups are open via a Typeform page, and Morrison says the testing will take place “later this month.”
The Blue Scarab website describes the game in progress as a “a story-driven MMORPG built using Unreal Engine 5, with a unique blend of cozy escapism and mystery.”
“Cozy exploration meets true-crime in our story-driven MMORPG that puts players in the saddle as they discover a beautiful open world on horseback and uncover a dark mystery together,” a press release from the studio’s launch reads.
That’s all we really know about the title as technically, the title is yet to be fully announced. With it being a multiplayer title, though, playtesting is a key component for making it work when it’s possible.
Craig Morrison is best known for his MMORPG work on titles such as a Director’s title for Anarchy Online and a Principal Designer on World of Warcraft, as well as being a Creative Director for the Battlefield franchise. The Blue Scarab lineup also includes some former Helldivers 2 staff on system and level design, as well as an interesting spread of others from all walks and levels of the industry.
The Swedish studio launched last year, led by Morrison, with $7 million.
