An interesting situation is developing surrounding Civilization 7, as people have been using the game to hack their Nintendo Switch 2 systems, and 2K is now supposedly recalling physical copies from retail.
Over the past couple of weeks, you may have heard that Nintendo Switch 2 has been jailbroken. Things have really escalated since those initial reports. People have been doing all sorts of things since – conducting datamines, modding titles, and more.
The physical copy of Civilization 7 has quickly become a hot commodity. By taking advantage of an unpatched exploit, users are able to run code via a connected USB device and break open their Nintendo Switch 2 system for hacking and more.
With the Civilization 7 exploit, users can mod games and run homebrew apps and programs. Running dumped titles isn’t currently possible, but there’s been a ton of progress overall, and things are changing quickly.
Regarding the physical version of Civilization 7 specifically on Nintendo Switch 2, reports are surfacing of consumers trying to buy a copy, only for their order to be cancelled. One person who attempted to make a purchase on Amazon claims the retailer received a cancellation notice following a 2K mandate, with the retailer citing “technical and security-related requirements.”
Note that the code-in-box version is not compatible with the exploit. A true physical version is needed.
For the time being, Nintendo and 2K have yet to comment on the situation. We’ll keep you updated if we hear anything else.
