Original: Following a new datamine, some fans are hoping that Master Quest could be added to the remake for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time in the future.

As we previously reported, the game doesn’t have Master Quest included. Some fans were hoping it’d be an unlockable bonus after beating the story, but nothing like that exists.

MrCheeze has now shared some interesting findings on social media from a Zelda: Ocarina of Time datamine. As it turns out, multiple references to “MQ” are included in the files. We can’t imagine what else this could be other than “Master Quest.”

Here’s a look:

MrCheeze also said that the files have a couple strings in the exefs as well. These include HasMQ, IsMQModeExist, NewGameMQ, and ReleaseMQ.

Now the question is, what’s the purpose of those references? Are they holdovers from the project’s development? Or is this is a sign of future update or DLC plans? As of now it’s tough to say.

IGN actually asked Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma about why Master Quest is missing in an interview published this week. However, he was mostly quiet about the reasoning.

His response is as follows:

“So certainly anytime that we release a game, if there’s an opportunity for the devs to consider what might come in the future, we want to leave that possibility open to them and support their interests. But I don’t think that we would announce anything specific at this time.”

Update: More reports are surfacing from the datamine via OatmealDome, including that Master Quest unlocks by owning DLC rather than by downloading an update. It also shows that the world is mirrored and dungeons are modified, such as cows being present in Jabu-Jabu’s Belly.
